Preferred white cardstock for handmade cards, stamping, coloring, and 101+ other kinds of crafty projects?

White cardstock for your cardmaking and papercrafting projects

A preferred white cardstock, especially for card bases and great stamping results? Neenah Solar White . . .

We papercrafters know, our paper (cardstock) makes a difference. Stamping and most any technique gives better results on quality cardstock.

A favorite bright white cardstock in the paper crafting world is Neenah Solar White Classic Crest Smooth — we like both the 80lb and the 110lb versions.

There is nothing quite like the feel of good cardstock turned into a card or tag or papercrafting project. The 80lb weight is great for most any handmade card or project. It is smooth and substantial. Many cardmakers prefer the 110lb weight – it’s quite sturdy.

Either way, Neenah Solar White cardstock is readily available online or even in your local paper shop. Some websites sell Neenah Solar White in smaller quantities if you’re not ready for the big pack. If you’re anything like me, however, I go for the whole ream!

Be sure to look for COVER SMOOTH, 8-1/2×11-inch cardstock. The best value tends to be the package of 250 sheets. That’s 500 A2-size cards (two cards per sheet)! A great value, right?

If you do prefer the pack of 250, did you know many local copy shops will cut your cardstock for you? I take my reams of cardstock to our local Kinkos store and, for just a few dollars, have some cut into card bases – 8-1/2×5-1/2-inch and 4-1/4×11-inch – and some cut into 4-1/4×5-1/2-inch layers.

Not only is the smooth and sturdy feel of Neenah Solar White preferred by many cardmakers for card bases, this also lends to great stamping, great coloring and blending whether you’re using alcohol-based markers such as Copic markers or colored pencils, water-based markers, or even distressing or ink blending with Distress or Distress Oxide inks.

Using the 80lb versions of both Neenah Solar White and Environment Desert Storm, I shared this set of A1 or 4-bar size cards (4-7/8×3-1/2″) cards (below and on my blog here). Sentiments and images stamp beautifully on the smooth finish of this cardstock! I also did a bit of soft and wispy ink blending for the sky background. It’s hard to go wrong when you start with great cardstock.
